Amsterdam Gay Guide 2026: Canal Pride & Best Bars Guide
Experience Canal Pride's 80-boat parade, historic bars like Café 't Mandje, and the Reguliersdwarsstraat scene. The original Rainbow City's best spots.
The Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage (2001), and Amsterdam has been a beacon of LGBTQ+ freedom for centuries. Canal Pride in August draws 500,000 visitors, the nightlife is legendary, and the Dutch attitude of live-and-let-live makes this one of Europe's most genuinely welcoming cities.

Amsterdam's Gay Neighbourhoods
🌈 Reguliersdwarsstraat
Amsterdam's most famous gay street — stylish, social, and busy from afternoon through to 3am. The strip of bars, cafés and clubs here is the heart of the mainstream gay scene.
🏳️🌈 Warmoesstraat
The older, raunchier gay district in the historic centre. Leather and bear bars dominate here, along with gay saunas. More underground and less tourist-facing than Reguliersdwarsstraat.
