Englischer Garten FKK

The Englischer Garten — Munich's English Garden — is one of the largest urban parks in the world, covering over 370 hectares in the heart of the city. While it is best known internationally for the Eisbach river wave where surfers can be seen year-round, within Munich's gay community it is the FKK meadow that occupies a special place.

The FKK area in the Englischer Garten is not hidden or marginal — it is a designated, signposted naturist meadow that is widely accepted as part of the park's culture. Clothed visitors walk past on their way to the Chinese Tower beer garden or the Japanese tea house, and nobody bats an eye. This normalisation is profoundly Bavarian: Munich has a long tradition of FKK culture that predates much of what you might associate with the city.

The gay FKK presence in the park coexists seamlessly with the general naturist community. On a warm summer day, the meadow fills with a genuine cross-section of Munich life — students from the nearby university, tourists who've wandered in, gay men from the city's thriving scene, older naturist regulars. The Isar river flows nearby and you can swim in it (it's cold but clean).

For Japanese visitors, the Englischer Garten FKK is perhaps the most accessible and least intimidating entry point into German naturist culture. It's in the middle of one of Germany's most famous parks, in the daytime, fully visible to the public — which paradoxically makes it feel safer and more natural than a hidden lake.
