Hafen: Schöneberg's Timeless Gay Classic (2026 Guide)
Located at Motzstraße 19 in the heart of Schöneberg, Hafen has been a cornerstone of Berlin's gay scene since its founding in 1993. The name means "harbour" in German, and this bar truly lives up to its name—a safe harbour for the queer community spanning three decades.
The Atmosphere
Hafen strikes a perfect balance between a neighbourhood local and a destination bar. The interior is warm and intimate, with exposed brick walls, vintage memorabilia, and the kind of lived-in comfort that only decades of history can provide. The crowd is a wonderful mix of locals, regulars, tourists, and everyone in-between—united by the genuine, unpretentious vibe of the place.
The Legendary Piano Night (Monday)
Hafen's claim to fame is its Monday Piano Night, a beloved Berlin tradition where guests gather around the grand piano for singalongs, performances, and the kind of spontaneous musical joy that the internet can never replicate. This weekly event has become a pilgrimage for both locals and visitors who want to experience old-school Berlin gay culture at its finest.

Monday Piano Night is one of those Berlin experiences you can't replicate anywhere else. Pure joy. Been coming here for 10 years and it never disappoints.
Great neighbourhood bar. Not the biggest place but has an amazing warm atmosphere. Staff were super friendly to me as a first-time visitor.
A true Berlin classic. Came on Friday night, the place was buzzing. Great mix of ages and styles. Drinks are affordable and the bartenders really know how to create an atmosphere.
Perfect pre-party stop. Two drinks here and then off to Berghain. The crowd here is real Berlin — genuine, diverse, no pretension.
