Müggelsee FKK

Müggelsee is Berlin's largest body of water — a broad, shimmering lake in the Köpenick district that has been a summer destination for Berliners for over a century. What sets it apart from Wannsee and Teufelssee is its scale and its East Berlin character: the lake and its surroundings carry a distinctive atmosphere shaped by the old working-class and alternative culture of former East Berlin.

The Strandbad Müggelsee on the south shore has long been the main bathing facility, but for the FKK and gay communities, the lesser-trafficked stretches of shoreline around the lake offer the best experience. The gay and naturist presence is concentrated on quieter sections of the beach away from the main public area — regulars know exactly where to go, and the atmosphere is welcoming and body-positive.

The Müggelsee area is particularly rewarding combined with the historic Köpenick old town, which has a charming town hall island (Rathausinsel) and is easily explored on foot. For Japanese visitors, this is the quintessential Berlin lake day: a proper sandy beach, a massive shimmering expanse of water, forest all around, and the easy freedom that defines FKK culture.
