Volkspark Friedrichshain

Volkspark Friedrichshain is the oldest public park in Berlin, dating to 1846. Located in the heart of Friedrichshain — one of the city's most vibrant alternative districts — the park carries the energy of its surroundings: younger, more creative, more politically conscious. This is the neighbourhood of techno clubs and co-ops, of street art and independent cafes.

The gay socializing scene in Volkspark Friedrichshain has a different character to the Tiergarten. Where the latter attracts a wide cross-section of gay Berlin, Volkspark draws particularly from the younger, queer-identified crowd of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Some visitors come from nearby clubs like Berghain or Tresor, using the park as a late-night continuation.

A distinctive feature of Volkspark Friedrichshain is the mix of queer identities you encounter there. Trans people, non-binary individuals, lesbians, and gender non-conforming visitors are all visible parts of the scene. This reflects Friedrichshain's broader queer culture, which is more intersectional and politically engaged than the mainstream gay scene elsewhere in the city.
